Charles Babbage Biography
Charles Babbage was born in London, England in December 26, 1791. His parents were Benjamin Babbage and Betsy Plumleigh Babbage. He and his family were rich. He was a smart little boy that he was his own algebra teacher. When he turned about eight years old, he had to move to a country school because he got a dangerous fever. Babbage said- "this great illness may have led to some of my childish reasonings." He attended a Grammar School in Totnes, South Devon (it's still open today) then he went to a private teaching for a short period of time, then joined a thirty student closed number academy right after. Babbage attended Cambridge University in October 1810 after he finished school. He was an English mathematician, philosopher, inventor and mechanical engineer who came up with the idea to invent the first mechanical computer. He received an honorary degree in 1814. In the same year he received his honorary degree, he married Georgiana Whitmore. They had eight children together together, but only three became adults. Georgiana died in 1827, and also Charles father did and one of Charles sons all died in 1827. Charles Babbage died on October 18, 1871.
